Bad Habits, we all have them. They can range from leaving your shoes in the middle of the floor to smoking and for so many of us they are so difficult to break.
What are habits?
Habits can be explained in this very simple equation:
Repetitive Behaviour + Pleasure from Behaviour = Habit!
This means that if you do something often and doing it hits the pleasure sensors in the brain, then you’re forming a deep set habit. Take smoking for example: You have a stressful job but at 12pm every day you look forward to your lunchtime cigarette which you have in the smoking shed with your colleagues.
You know that you have to stop smoking but when you try to stop, your mind associates 12pm with the smoking shed and on top of that, when 12pm comes, the pleasure sensors in your brain are expecting their hit.
All of a sudden stopping smoking becomes hard, stressful and you find yourself going back to it.
